Exploring the capacities we have to make and sustain relationships in unusual circumstances, I set up conversations through drawing between women involved with the criminal justice system (CJS) and contemporary women artists in Bristol and surrounding areas. A bit like having a penpal, the women didn't meet while they were corresponding.

Initiated in each case by someone in the CJS setting, the conversations continued for between two and nine drawings. A publication, website and exhibition were produced.

Another version of the project happened in Peterborough, linking male inmates of the city's prison with local artists.
