Intimate Landscapes

As Artist in Residence at the University of Bath, I focussed on new halls of residence under construction. Seeking to make a connection between the building site and the campus surrounding it, I invited people to send me messages for future occupants. Emails and notes came from construction workers, administrative and academic staff, cleaners, cooks, librarians, security guards, shop workers, current and past students. The messages were written onto miniature construction workers and vehicles then exhibited before being embedded into the halls of residence walls. Each of the new kitchens has one of a series of 40 photographs, showing these toys around their campus. The actual messages are now hidden, although occupants know they exist somewhere in their building.
